Live Oak Adventure
For anyone new to EANES, Live Oak is the District's environmental classroom program offered to every fifth grade student. It Live Oak is a 2 night/3 day off campus outdoor classroom experience for EANES 5th grade students. We are excited about Live Oak and hope to generate the same enthusiasm among our students and parents.
Program Description
• Provides an intensive academic experience
• Opportunity for students to see their teachers as people
• Opportunity to see their classmates as friends
• Opportunity to see themselves as an important part of the larger community
All fifth grade students at Bridge Point will be attending Live Oak together. Live Oak Adventure will last two and one-half days and will be November 15-17 Wednesday-Friday. We will be going to the Highland Lakes Camp on Lake Travis.
The fee for participation this year is $145.00. Please make the check out to Bridge Point Elementary. Scholarships (partial or full) are available for students that need them so that every fifth grader can participate in this exciting program. Please contact the counseling office if you need more information about a scholarship. Homeroom teachers will collect all fees and forms.
For those of you, who will be participating in our Mini Courses, there will be a prepaid $8.00 charge for lunch. Please send cash for the lunch. Thank you for helping to make LOA 2017 a successful experience for your child.
Live Oak... will be here before you know it! We will be leaving for Live Oak on Wednesday, November 15th and returning Friday, November 17th. On Friday the 10th, in the afternoon the fifth grade team will meet with the students to go over expectations and answer questions. Here is what we will discuss.
We will hand out Live Oak T-shirts Tuesday, the 14th, and students will wear them to school on Wednesday the 15th.
- Drop Off: Please bring your child to school on Wednesday 11/15 with their duffel bag and bedding labeled with masking tape with first and last name. Our suggestion is to put bedding items, pillow, and towels in a large heavy duty garbage bag so that it is all together. Send an extra bag (labeled) with them for when they are packing up at camp. Riding the bus to school on Wednesday the 15th in the morning will be difficult with duffel bags and bedding so please plan on driving your child to school that morning. Bedding and duffel bag will be dropped off by the flag pole Monday morning. Look for your Homeroom teacher's spot labeled with their name. This is where items will be dropped off. Students will attend morning assembly and Specials Monday like a normal school day. We'll be leaving shortly after Specials.
-Pick Up on Friday the 17th- Students will need to be picked up early from school on Friday. We will be arriving around 12:15 PM. If you will not be picking your child up, please make arrangements prior to have your child picked up by a family member or friend. If you are not picking your child up, please let me know arrangements on Wednesday the 15th so that students know how they are getting home. Please email me or send a note with your child if you are making special arrangements.
-Please watch the weather to make sure your child is packing appropriately. It is suppose to be a little cooler and we do have night activities so please pack long pants and a jacket. Remember not to over pack... they will be wearing the clothes they have on Monday so all they need is something for Tuesday and Wednesday. Whatever they pack, they have to carry. We do recommend that students pack rain gear (poncho and extra pair of tennis shoes) in case it is wet outside. Please make sure your child packs closed toe athletic shoes. Remember we will be outside the majority of the time so please don't send anything that could get ruined.
-Sleeping Arrangements: There will be separate sleeping quarters for boys and girls. Female teachers will be with the girls and male teachers with the boys. The cabins are equipped with bunk beds and electricity. There are private showers and restrooms. Students need to bring a sleeping bag or a sheet set with blanket and a pillow. It can get cold at night.
-Medication: Please bring all medication needed for Live Oak to Nurse Boldrick. All meds must be in original containers and you must have listed the meds on the medical release form.
-CELL PHONES and ELECTRONICS are not permitted.
I am looking forward to this experience as much as the students are. It is a great tradition that helps build positive relationships and trust within fifth grade. Thank you for all your support.
